Basic Electrical

This course is a hands-on basic electrical overview designed for automotive and HD technicians. No prerequisite knowledge is required.

Major topics include:

  • What is electricity?

  • Current, voltage and resistance

  • Electrical laws

  • Digital Multimeter (DMM) functions

  • Basic circuits

  • Circuit failures and diagnostic techniques

Each participant is required to bring their personal digital multimeter (DMM) to class.

Class duration: 1 day (8 hours)

Maximum class enrollment: 12 students

The student will:

  • Gain an understanding of voltage, current and resistance.

  • Be introduced to the proper use and interpretation of a digital multimeter (DMM).

  • Gain an understanding of the use of electrical symbols and wiring schematics.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of Ohm’s Law.

  • Demonstrate the use of voltage drop measurements for electrical diagnostic purposes.

  • Demonstrate the use of current measurements for electrical diagnostics.
